Assessment pathway

Everyday Life and Participation Assessment

Stage 1: €400 Full pathway: up to €800

Stage 1 is a complete occupational therapy assessment in its own right. Stage 2 is a further €400 only where additional focused or standardised assessment would add useful information.

How do the two assessment stages work?
Stage 1 · €400

Includes assessment of everyday routines, strengths, needs, environments, priorities and goals, with clinical interpretation, a written OT report and practical recommendations.

Stage 2 · A further €400, only where needed

May include focused observation, direct assessment or standardised assessment. It is discussed, agreed, booked and paid for separately.

There is no automatic €800 commitment. Clients who complete only Stage 1 pay €400.

Travel and appointments in everyday settings

Where appropriate, occupational therapy may take place in a home, school, workplace or another agreed community setting linked to the person’s goals.

€20 per 20-minute return-travel block plus €0.50 per return kilometre · €20 minimum applies
View the full travel charges and how they are calculated
€20 per 20-minute block Professional travel time is calculated using the total return journey.
€20 minimum A minimum travel-time charge applies to setting visits.
€0.50 per kilometre Mileage is based on the total return distance.
At cost Parking, tolls and agreed venue or admission costs are added where applicable.

Journey time and distance are estimated using Google Maps from Belong OT’s base in Ardnacrusha. The normal journey estimate is used when the fee is prepared, so unexpected traffic on the day will not increase a confirmed fee.

Travel of up to two hours each way may be considered by prior agreement, subject to clinical suitability and availability.

Where several clients are seen at the same school or location, the same journey will not be charged in full to every family. Travel may be shared fairly or included in an agreed school or organisation quotation.

This calculator provides an estimate only. Your travel fee will be confirmed before the appointment is booked.

Additional professional work

Brief routine communication linked to a booked service is included.

Additional work outside the agreed service is €90 per hour, charged in 20-minute units of €30.

Additional work is discussed and approved before it begins, so you will not receive an unexpected charge.

Examples of additional professional work
  • Planned calls with teachers or other professionals
  • Case conferences
  • Substantial record review
  • Additional letters or forms
  • Lengthy email support
  • Report amendments outside the agreed scope
  • Equipment or accommodation research

Schools, workplaces and organisations

Individual occupational therapy consultations and support sessions use the standard clinical fee where appropriate.

Whole-school consultation, staff training, workplace support, environmental reviews and broader organisation services are quotation-based. The scope, travel and full price, including any VAT that applies, will be confirmed in writing before work begins.

Services for schools

Support is shaped around the school’s own priorities and may include:

  • Whole-school or whole-class consultation
  • Teacher and SNA training and coaching
  • Classroom, sensory and environmental reviews
  • Support with regulation, participation and inclusive routines
  • Visits covering several identified pupils, with appropriate consent

Services for workplaces and organisations

Support is shaped around the organisation’s context and may include:

  • Neuroaffirming workplace and team training
  • Workplace environmental and sensory reviews
  • Consultation on accommodations, participation and inclusion
  • Advisory input on policies, systems and everyday work practices
How organisation quotations are prepared

Every school and organisation is different, so quotations are prepared individually rather than from a fixed price list.

A quotation reflects the scope agreed with you, including preparation, delivery time, the number of staff or pupils involved, travel, any materials, and reporting or follow-up where included.

The process is simple: send an enquiry, agree the scope in a brief scoping conversation, and receive a written quotation showing the full price, including any VAT that applies. Work begins only once the quotation is accepted.

Planned for January 2027 Work and Access Workplace Needs Assessments

Belong OT plans to offer Work and Access Workplace Needs Assessments from January 2027.

A Workplace Needs Assessment may help identify barriers within a person’s job, work tasks or workplace and make evidence-based recommendations for supports, accommodations, training, equipment or technology.

This will be a quotation-based service. The fee will reflect the services required, assessment scope, setting, travel, liaison and reporting involved. The full price, including any VAT that applies, will be confirmed in writing before work begins.

This service is not yet available to book. Eligibility and funding decisions are made by the Department of Social Protection, and assessment recommendations do not themselves approve funding.

Receipts, health insurance and tax information

Belong OT provides clear receipts for paid occupational therapy services. Clinical services and any travel or administrative charges are listed separately where applicable.

Private health insurance

Some Vhi, Laya Healthcare and Irish Life Health plans provide a contribution towards occupational therapy. Cover, benefit limits and reimbursement amounts depend on the individual member’s plan.

Please check your own Table of Benefits before booking. Belong OT cannot guarantee reimbursement for a particular service or fee.

Insurer logos are displayed with permission. Their inclusion does not guarantee cover under an individual health-insurance policy.

Some clients may be eligible for tax relief on qualifying health expenses. Please check current Revenue guidance and retain your receipts.

VAT repayment on certain disability aids and appliances

Revenue may repay VAT paid on certain aids and appliances used by a person with a disability where the scheme conditions are met. Supporting evidence may be required to explain how an item meets the person’s disability-related needs.

This scheme concerns eligible goods. Occupational therapy services and rental costs do not qualify for this VAT repayment.

Common pricing questions

Brief answers to the questions people most often ask before booking.

What should a new client book first?

New clients begin with the 60-minute online Initial Consultation. This helps clarify priorities and decide whether assessment, consultation, practical support or another next step would be most useful.

Is Assessment Stage 2 always required?

No. Stage 1 is a complete €400 assessment in its own right. Stage 2 is a further €400 only where focused observation, direct assessment or standardised assessment would add useful information. The full pathway is therefore up to €800.

Can a parent, carer or teacher attend a consultation?

Yes. A 45-minute Occupational Therapy Consultation may involve an adult client, parent, carer, teacher or another agreed person. Teacher or professional consultation relating to an identified client requires appropriate consent.

Can I book a home, school or community appointment online?

Please make an enquiry first. The setting, suitability, journey and estimated travel fee need to be agreed before the appointment is booked and paid for.

Will health insurance cover the appointment?

Cover depends on the individual insurer and plan. Belong OT provides clear receipts, but reimbursement cannot be guaranteed. Please check your own Table of Benefits before booking.

Read our health-insurance guide.

Is VAT added to the prices shown?

The clinical fees displayed on this page are the prices charged for those services. Quotation-based workplace, training or organisational services may have different VAT treatment. Any VAT that applies will be shown clearly in the written quotation before the work is agreed.

Can VAT be reclaimed on an aid or appliance recommended for everyday use?

Revenue may repay VAT on certain disability-related aids and appliances where its conditions are met. Eligibility is decided by Revenue and supporting evidence may be required. The scheme does not cover occupational therapy services or rental costs.

Read our guide to health expense relief and VAT refunds.
